a room flooded with sweat, steamed with b.o., stupefied by the music and PACKED with 99.9% asians.
it was the EPIK HIGH CONCERT (in nyc).
*for those who don't know who epik high is, it's a korean music rap group consisting of 3 members. they just launched a new album called map the soul (AWESOME) and are going on a tour with other music groups such as far east movement, kero one etc. (you should be ashamed for not knowing them btw)*
so yes. caroline and i went to an epik high concert just 2 weeks ago (May 22, '09). and this is the story:
firstly, my school had a "field day" where we went to central park and played sports. i wanted to play badminton and brought all the shenanigans that went with it. the day was beautiful, sunny blue sky, but of course it had to be windy. yeah, trying to play badminton with the wind is like trying to save polar bears while most of us still drive cars. so i did nothing.
c and i were planning to get to the concert theater by like 4.00pm (the doors open at 6pm, or so the ticket said). but then after bored out-of-my-mind at the park and boiled by the sun, c and i crashed at my friend's place. yet of course i had to leave my wallet at home. so i told my brother to get my wallet and meet me under the subway station on 42nd st. so we did. but this took like 2 hours. i went back to my friend's place, and it was already 5. so much for planning to get there by 4.
AT LAST, we got there at 6. like other concerts, there was a long line. no, that's a lie. IT WAS MASSIVELY and RIDICULOUSLY LONG. there were two lines, and both successfully wrapped the entire block. we were like, oh well. so we went to the closest line to us. it look shorter than the other, thinking that both are the same. uh yeah. there's this thing called VIP line. and no, we're not VIPs.
SO we withdrew from this line, who grew stupidly long after 10 mins and went to the other line, which not very surprising, was twice the size of the other line. we groaned and moaned. but we coped. luckily there were 2 cute guys in front of us (no, not gay, they're two separate people). we waited and waited, until we no longer enjoy our nice "view." it was 7:25pm, and we haven't moved a single step. the ticket said the doors open at 6 and the show starts at 7. uh yeah.
FINALLY, we went in. and i know i'll fail to describe it. but my god it was PACKED. when i say packed. i mean, PACKED. I've never been to Irving Plaza prior to the concert, but it's not huge (enough). the doors were moderately near the stage, not really but close enough for us the latecomers to at least see the stage. it was a taste of summer hotness. IT WAS HOT. everyone was gasping for air. i was honestly oxygen-deprived.
we waited for about 10 mins until someone came out. this guy was like the MC (and was pretty cute), he talked and sang a song about "broke-diggers," girls who dig brokes. pretty dope. then keroone came out, then far east movement, myk, and others. the show starred a number of music groups, all pretty cool. i would say that far east movement got the audience's attention successfully, considering that we were all about to pass out from the heat. they brought the spirit back with their "need-to-save-music-in-year-3009" theme. i think they threw a pair of sneakers too to the audience. dangerous, but sensational.
AFTER about an hour and a half of waiting for epik high. they FINALLY came. OMG.
okay. first of all, did i tell you about caroline needing to go home by 10? uh yeah. her parents said she had an appointment at 10.30, and needed to go home by 10. WHICH MEANT THAT WE HAD TO LEAVE THE CONCERT EARLY. scold her for me please. please.
anywho. epik high finally came out, sang a song and tablo made a speech about the hotness, crowd, album, and everything else. he wore a t-shirt, cardigan, and a hat. attractive. mithra was wearing a black shirt and a hat. and tukutz was wearing a cardigan and a hat too, i think. i couldn't see. oh, and after tablo made the speech in both english and korean, mithra translated it into japanese (i think) which was awesome. after the intro, they sang. BUT remembering that caroline HAD to go home. we had to leave after 3 songs. coming out of that room was... supernatural. i was dripping in sweat. i felt like i just ran 10 miles. most of the liquid in my body evaporated and i needed water quick. so my other friend and i ran to duane reade, grasping for water. we hydrated, then our stomachs growled, screaming for food. so we walked another 10 blocks to eat soba. the night was virtually over.
NONETHELESS: although i may have made the day sound horrible and the concert seem nothing but blazing hot. i cannot express enough how amazing the whole concert was. epik high is simply talented. so are all the other artists of course.
*worth to note that i left out some details of the concert, like a guy's private rubbing on my behind, a really hot guy standing next to me, and etc. which probably made the concert even more memorable.
in short words: EPIK HIGH CONCERT = priceless.
.n :)
